Westbound I-84 lane restrictions expected Wednesday and Thursday nights (July 30-31) for soundwall project
BOISE - Westbound I-84 will be reduced to one lane Wednesday and Thursday nights (July 30-31) between the Vista and Broadway interchanges, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The outside lane of westbound I-84 will be closed between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. both nights while crews place concrete barriers along the outside shoulder of westbound I-84.

Barriers will aid traffic control during a project to build a concrete soundwall north of I-84 in three areas between the Cole and Broadway interchanges. The wall will range from 14 to 16 feet high and will help reduce traffic noise for residents.

The westbound I-84 shoulder will be closed until the project is completed in early 2009. The speed limit is 55 mph in the project area.

Record Steel and Construction Inc. of Meridian is the contractor for the $9.6 million soundwalls project.

The project is funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
