Lane reductions, closure planned on I-15 for electrical work

RIGBY - Lanes on Interstate 15 at the Sunnyside Interchange will be reduced on Sunday and Monday (Feb. 13 and 14) nights while crews relocate overhead power cables, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

From 10 p.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday, and 10 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Tuesday, traffic will be reduced to one lane at mileposts 115-117 for southbound traffic and mileposts 114-116 for northbound traffic.

All lanes will close for approximately five minutes each night while crews pulls the power lines across the highway. Flaggers will stop traffic during the brief closure.

The work is part of the $21 million Sunnyside Interchange to I-15B project that will connect the interstate with Sunnyside Road in Idaho Falls. Construction includes a new interchange and bridge over the Snake River below the city of Idaho Falls power plant. Wasatch Electric of Salt Lake City is the contractor for relocation of the power cables.

The speed limit on I-15 from mileposts 113 to 119 was recently lowered to 55 mph because of the construction. Construction on the project will continue through the fall of 2006.
