Idaho 75 at Galena Summit to be intermittently blocked in September
SHOSHONE - Road maintenance on Idaho 75 near Galena Summit will block traffic on several occasions during September, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Beginning Sept. 3, a pair of rock outcroppings will be reduced in size to provide for additional shoulder width. Widening will reduce snow drifting and assist in snow removal activities at two of the narrowest points on Galena Summit. The cuts will be made at milepost 155 on the south slope and at milepost 158 on the north slope. The rock cuts will be made using minor blasting.

All traffic in the area will be stopped during the blasting and while the area is cleared of debris. Drivers should anticipate delays during and after each blast. One lane of traffic will be opened to traffic after the areas are cleared of loose rocks.

Flaggers and a pilot car will be used to assist traffic through the work zone. Drivers can expect 15 minute delays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Sept. 30. Dan Lafferty Construction of Hagerman is the contractor.

Drivers are asked to follow all temporary traffic control signs and use caution through the work zones. For up-to-date schedules of planned closures, dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov

ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply.
