Lane reduction at Broadway Avenue and Linden Street tonight (Sept. 3) through Thursday
BOISE - Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Broadway Avenue (U.S. 20), from Linden Street south to the Ridenbaugh Canal, beginning tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 3), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced. The lane reduction will continue through tomorrow while crews install a fiber optic conduit at the intersection near Shopko, just north of the Federal Way overpass.
The work is part of a project to rehabilitate a 1.5-mile section of Broadway from Rossi Street to the Ridenbaugh Canal. This week, crews are milling off the surface of the existing roadway. Paving is scheduled to follow, beginning Tuesday (Sept. 9) and continuing for approximately three weeks.
Crews will be using vibratory rollers to compact the new pavement, and this will create a noticeable vibration to nearby residents.
To minimize inconvenience to businesses and residents during peak traffic hours, crews are working a weekday evening and overnight schedule.
"During the milling process, significant nighttime noise can be expected while crews work their way through the corridor," said Merrill Sharp, ITD Project Manager. "We understand this can be a burden to area residents and ask that you please bear with us. In the end, Broadway will be a smoother, safer road for the traveling public."
All efforts are being made to maintain cross street and business access; however, temporary closures can be expected as the paving progresses.
Central Paving Co., Inc. is the contractor on this $1.02 million project, scheduled for completion in late October.
ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
