Speed limit to be lowered on section of I-15 near Idaho Falls

RIGBY - The speed limit on Interstate 15 through the Idaho Falls area has been reduced to 55 mph and will remain in effect until construction of the new Sunnyside Interchange is complete, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The lower speed limit extends from milepost 113 to 119. Completion of the $21 million project is expected in late 2006.

Construction of the interchange, bridge and connecting roadway will continue year-round. The lower speed limit is necessary for the safety of the traveling public and highway work crews, said District 6 engineer Tom Cole. We want to protect motorists and the crews working on the project.
