Slope stabilization under way along U.S. 26 opposite Palisades Dam
RIGBY - Slope stabilization is under way along U.S. 26 opposite Palisades Dam, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.
Crews will remove loose rock from a 500‑foot stretch of rock slope and install retaining wire mesh on the entire slope.
Motorists can expect 20‑minute delays as flaggers stop traffic for the work to take place.
Crews will work from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The project is scheduled for completion on Oct. 3.
Teams of three persons each will repel down the rocky slope to dislodge loose rock and to fortify the mountain face with wire mesh. Crews also will plant native grasses, brushes and flowers to deter erosion. Motorists should watch for rock on the road and for construction equipment along the highway.
ITD conducts slope stabilization (rock scaling) each year to reduce falling rock.
