Broadway Avenue to be restricted beginning early Wednesday (Sept. 10) near westbound I-84 on-ramp for soundwall project
BOISE - Beginning early tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 10), the usual right-turn lane onto westbound I-84 from Broadway Avenue will be closed, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Traffic on southbound Broadway Avenue can still enter westbound I-84, but will need to use the southbound through lane -- the lane immediately adjacent to the turn lane that will be closed. This change will be in effect through December.
The restriction is necessary for worker safety on the I-84 soundwall project, which began in May and will result in a 14- to 16-foot concrete soundwall from Cole Road to Broadway Avenue. Work is under way in the segment between the Vista and Broadway interchanges.
The speed limit is 55 mph on westbound I-84 in the soundwall project area. Motorists entering westbound I-84 may be stopped briefly for construction vehicles at the Cole, Vista or Broadway interchanges.
The Cole to Broadway Soundwall project on I-84 is expected to be complete in January 2009.
Record Steel and Construction Inc. (RSCI) of Meridian is the contractor on this $9.6 million soundwall project.
The project is funded by the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses proceeds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvement.
ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for driving information on the state highway or interstate system.
