Westbound I-84 traffic to be detoured around Franklin Boulevard Bridge Sunday night (Sept. 21)
BOISE - Traffic on westbound I-84 will be routed around Franklin Boulevard Bridge for several hours beginning at 10 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 21) during work on the new bridge columns, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The detour will allow rebar columns to be lifted into place for the new bridge structure.

Westbound traffic will exit I-84 at the Franklin Boulevard off-ramp and re-enter at the westbound on-ramp on the other side of the bridge.

The Franklin Boulevard Bridge project involves reconstructing the east side of the bridge over I-84, built in 1965, to match the west half rebuilt in 1999. Work is expected to be complete in Summer 2009 and will allow future I-84 widening between the Franklin Boulevard and Garrity Boulevard interchanges in Nampa.

The project is part of a series of interstate improvements planned for I-84 between Caldwell and Meridian through the GARVEE Transportation Program. The program uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

Concrete Placing Co. of Boise is the contractor for the $3.1 million project.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
