Bridge construction on U.S. 20 between Idaho Falls and Rigby to start Friday (Sept. 19)
RIGBY - Bridge construction on U.S. 20 between Idaho Falls and Rigby will start Friday (Sept. 19), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

Crews will resurface the deck of the Snake River Dry Bed Canal Bridge north of Rigby and replace the southbound deck of the Idaho Canal Bridge north of the Lewisville Interchange, Exit 310.

Construction on the Snake River Dry Bed Canal Bridge will begin on Friday and construction on the Idaho Canal Bridge will begin on Monday.

Work will take place weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and the speed limit in work zones will be reduced to 55 mph. Motorists should watch for construction workers and equipment.

The bridge projects are scheduled for completion by Christmas.

ITD awarded the $497,961 contract for the two bridges to Trinity Construction Inc. of Boise on May 6.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
