Reminder: public invited to Nampa Gateway Center this afternoon for details on Black Cat, Robinson bridge reconstruction
BOISE - A transportation department representative will be at the Nampa Gateway Center this afternoon (Tuesday, Sept. 23) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to answer questions about the Robinson Boulevard and Black Cat Road bridge reconstruction, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The drop-in will be held at the JC Penney's store in the Nampa Gateway Center, at 1200 N. Happy Valley Road in Nampa.

The dual bridge reconstruction is part of a larger project to add lanes to I-84 between Nampa and Meridian. Bridge columns on both overpasses are spaced too closely for additional lanes on I-84.

Starting late Friday (Sept. 26), north- and southbound traffic will be detoured around the bridges via Franklin Road on the north and Victory Road on the south.

The demolition of the bridges will require east- and westbound I-84 to be closed for a short time (10 p.m. to 7 a.m.) Friday and Saturday nights. Following this brief closure and detour via Franklin Road, the interstate will re-open and remain open throughout the project.

The I-84 overpass at Ten Mile Road also will be open throughout the project.

The reconstructed bridges are expected to open in late January 2009.

Motorists are encouraged to plan extra time and know their routes in advance.

The bridges will be demolished Friday and Saturday nights. I-84 traffic will be detoured around the demolition area from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. both nights.

Graham Construction and Management of Spokane is the contractor for the $8.5 million project.

The project is funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite I-84 improvements.
