Sign upgrades to close one lane of eastbound Connector (I-184)
BOISE - Replacement of an aging over-roadway sign post will close the left lane on the eastbound Connector (I-184) for about 200 feet near the Chinden Boulevard Bridge for about a month beginning Sunday night (Oct. 5), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The inside shoulder in the westbound lanes also will be closed during installation of the new sign. The left-most eastbound lane is closed for the 200 feet from the Chinden Blvd Bridge east.

Crews will work each night to remove a section of the median wall to install the foundation for a new T-pole over-roadway sign post. The new foundation will extend about 23 feet below the road surface. After installation of the new sign post and directional signs, workers will then remove the existing T-pole sign (five foot in diameter and 25 feet deep) and replace the dividing wall section.

The 24/7 closure of the lane is necessary for the safety of motorists traveling near the replacement activities.

Drivers are urged to be cautious when driving through the construction zone and to watch for crew members and equipment when present.

The sign upgrade is part of a statewide program administered by ITD's District office in Shoshone. Several deteriorated signs on the Connector, on U.S. 20/26 in Boise and Interstate 84 have been included in the upgrades.

Specialty Construction of Boise is the project contractor.

ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
