Reminder: Sign upgrades close lane on eastbound Connector (I-184) for next month
BOISE - Motorists are reminded that replacement of an over-the-roadway sign post will close the left lane on the eastbound Connector (I-184) for about 200 feet near the Chinden Boulevard Bridge, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
This work started Sunday night, and is expected to last approximately one month, but could finish sooner.
"Although the project is expected to last a month," said ITD Regional Engineer Kimbol Allen, "we are going to make every effort to finish early and remove the traffic restrictions as soon as possible."
The inside shoulder in the westbound lanes also will be closed during installation of the new sign. The closure of the lane is necessary for the safety of motorists traveling near the work zone.
Crews will remove a section of the median wall to install the foundation for a new T-pole sign post. The new foundation will extend about 23 feet below the road surface. After installation of the new sign post and directional signs, workers will remove the existing T-pole sign (five feet in diameter and 25 feet deep) and replace the dividing wall section.
Drivers are urged to use caution when driving through the construction zone and to watch for construction crew members and equipment.
Specialty Construction of Boise is the project contractor.
ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
