Sign upgrades to take place in Burley, I-84/I-86 junction starting Tuesday (Oct. 14)
BURLEY - Temporary lane closures could occur on North Overland Road with the installation of a new cantilever sign at the Interstate 84/Idaho 27 junction beginning on Tuesday (Oct. 14), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will be working primarily on the shoulder near the eastbound on-ramps at the junction to pour foundations for the over-the-road sign post. The first portion of the work is expected to last through Friday (Oct. 17). Crews will return the week of Oct. 27 to install the post and signage.
The sign upgrade is part of a statewide program administered by ITD District Four in Shoshone to replace aging signs and structures. Several signs on the I-184 Connector and U.S. 20/26 in Boise as well as several along I-84 in the Mini-Cassia area are included in the upgrades.
In addition, new signs have been installed over the eastbound lanes of I-84 near the I-84/I-86 junction also known as the Salt Lake Interchange. Until now, signs distinguished the directions to Pocatello via I-86 and Ogden via I-84. New signs to continue on eastbound I-84 will now direct travelers to Ogden or Salt Lake.
Drivers are urged to use caution when driving through the construction zone and to watch for workers and equipment.
Work is being completed by Specialty Construction of Boise.
ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
