Nighttime I-84 lane closures continue between Orchard and Vista through Tuesday (Nov. 4); daytime noise increases
BOISE - Traffic on I-84 between the Orchard Street and Vista Avenue interchanges will be restricted to one lane in each direction at night through Tuesday (Nov. 4), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

The closures will allow crews to haul material and equipment into the work zone for the New York Canal bridge widening project over I-84.

Also, daytime noise will increase in the area during the next two to three weeks for pile driving. Crews are widening the bridge over the New York Canal just east of the Orchard Street Interchange to prepare for future improvements to the interchange and to I-84.

The speed limit is 55 mph and highway shoulders are restricted on I-84 between Orchard and Vista. These traffic changes are expected to continue through the spring of 2009 when the bridge-widening project is complete.

ITD advises motorists to watch out for workers and equipment in the area.

The improvements are part of a series of interstate improvements planned for I-84 between Cole and Broadway interchanges through the GARVEE Transportation Program. The program uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to accelerate highway improvement projects.

Improvements will include reconstructing Orchard Interchange and widening I-84 between Cole and Vista interchanges.

Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal bridge project.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
