Bridge construction on U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls to slow traffic starting Thursday (Nov. 6)
RIGBY - Bridge construction on U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls will slow traffic starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday (Nov. 6), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.
Crews will pour the passing lane of the southbound deck of the Idaho Canal Bridge north of the Lewisville Interchange, Exit 310.
The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph for concrete placement and curing. The speed limit reduction will last until Sunday evening and be enforced around the clock.
Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists should watch for construction workers and equipment. Commercial vehicles are restricted to 12 feet in width and to legal weights.
Construction on the Idaho Canal Bridge is scheduled for completion by Christmas.
ITD awarded the $497,961 contract for replacing the deck of the Idaho Canal Bridge and for resurfacing the Snake River Dry Bed Canal Bridge on U.S. 20 north of Rigby, which also is under construction, to Trinity Construction Inc. of Boise.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution drivers to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5‑1‑1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
