Bridge construction on U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls to slow traffic starting Tuesday (Nov. 11)
RIGBY - Bridge construction on U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls will slow traffic starting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 11), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.
Weather permitting, crews will pour the passing lane of the southbound deck of the Idaho Canal Bridge north of the Lewisville Interchange, Exit 310. ITD planned to pour the passing lane last week, but weather conditions resulted in a delay.
The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph for concrete placement and curing. The speed limit reduction will continue until Friday evening and be enforced 24 hours per day. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction in the construction zone. Motorists should watch for construction workers and equipment.
Commercial vehicles are restricted to 12 feet in width and to legal weights.
Construction on the Idaho Canal Bridge is scheduled for completion by late December.
ITD awarded the $497,961 contract to Trinity Construction Inc. of Boise for the Idaho Canal Bridge project and resurfacing of the Snake River Dry Bed Canal Bridge on U.S. 20 north of Rigby. Construction is under way on both projects.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution drivers to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5‑1‑1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for construction information on the state highway or interstate system.
