Bridge construction on U.S. 20 north of Rigby to slow traffic this week
RIGBY ‑ Bridge construction on U.S. 20 north of Rigby will slow traffic this week, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

Crews poured the travel lane of the southbound deck of the Snake River Dry Bed Canal Bridge north of Rigby on Monday.

The speed limit is reduced to 25 mph for proper curing. The speed limit reduction will last until Friday and be enforced 24 hours per day.

Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction in the construction zone. Motorists should watch for construction workers and equipment. Commercial vehicles are restricted to 12 feet in width and to legal weights.

Construction on the Snake River Dry Bed Canal Bridge is ahead of schedule, with completion now anticipated by Thanksgiving. ITD initially estimated crews would complete the project by Christmas.

As part of the bridge work along U.S. 20 between Lorenzo and Idaho Falls, crews also are replacing the deck of the Idaho Canal Bridge north of the Lewisville Interchange, Exit 310.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution drivers to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5‑1‑1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for construction information on the state highway or interstate system.
