Public comment sought on U.S. 95 Council Alternate Route

COUNCIL - A public open house regarding the U.S. 95 Council Alternative Route project will be held Thurs., Jan. 13, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced. The open house will be held in the Council Elementary School Multi-purpose Room from 4 7 p.m.

Project officials will be available to provide information about the project, listen to concerns and comments, and answer questions. Displays will be available to help illustrate the project.

U.S. 95 is an important highway for the local community and for motorists traveling between northern and southern Idaho. Vehicles large and small, traveling through Adams County, are currently routed through the heart of downtown Council.
The purpose of the project is to improve pedestrian and traffic safety, reduce congestion, and improve U.S. 95 through-traffic within the downtown and southerly areas in Council.

The highway makes two 90-degree turns within Councils city limits. Parked cars create problems for trucks and recreational vehicles trying to make the turns, and turning vehicles create hazards for other motorists and pedestrians.

If unable to attend the meeting, the public is invited to send comments to: ITD Public Involvement Coordinator, PO Box 7190, Boise, ID 83707.
