Bridge construction on U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls to slow traffic starting Thursday (Dec. 11)
RIGBY - Bridge construction on U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls will slow traffic starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday (Dec. 11), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

Weather permitting, crews will pour the travel lane of the southbound deck of the Idaho Canal Bridge north of the Lewisville Interchange, Exit 310. The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph for concrete placement and curing. The speed limit reduction will continue until Monday, Dec. 22, and be enforced 24 hours per day.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the construction zone. Motorists should watch for construction workers and equipment. Commercial vehicles are restricted to 12 feet in width and to legal weights. Construction on the Idaho Canal Bridge is scheduled for completion late this month.

ITD awarded a $497,961 contract to Trinity Construction Inc. of Boise for the Idaho Canal Bridge project and resurfacing of the Snake River Dry Bed Canal Bridge on U.S. 20 north of Rigby. Crews completed the Snake River Dry Bed Canal Bridge project late last month.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution drivers to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5‑1‑1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for construction information on the state highway or interstate system.
