REVISION: I-84 eastbound lanes between Nampa and Meridian to shift Thursday night (Dec. 11); Meridian eastbound off-ramp closes
BOISE - Eastbound I-84 traffic between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges will be shifted onto new lanes in the center at 10 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 11), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The shift initially planned for Friday night is occurring one day earlier than expected due to favorable weather.

The lane shift will be in effect until early summer 2009 while crews reconstruct the old eastbound lanes between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges.

In addition, the eastbound off-ramp closure at the Meridian Interchange also will begin at 10 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 11), one day earlier than expected. The ramp will be completely closed from Thursday to Saturday (Dec. 11-13) while crews tie the ramp into the lane shift.

Local traffic will be detoured to the Eagle Interchange eastbound off-ramp. The ramp is anticipated to re-open on Saturday (Dec. 13).

At least one lane of traffic in each direction on I-84 is open between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on weekdays and between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Two lanes in each direction are open during the day.

The I-84 speed limit is 55 mph and the shoulders are restricted between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges.

The work is part of the Garrity to Meridian project, which will result in six lanes on I-84 and a median barrier between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges.

The project is estimated to cost $113 million, and is expected to be complete in 2010.

The project is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for driving information on the state highway or interstate system.
