Nighttime lane restrictions on I-84 between Cole and Vista interchanges Thursday, Sunday and Monday
BOISE - Depending on weather conditions, motorists can expect lane restrictions on Interstate 84 between the Orchard and Vista interchanges on Thursday (Dec. 18), Sunday (Dec. 21) and Monday (Dec. 22). ITD crews will be placing guardrail, setting girders for the new bridge and striping the road near the Three Mile Ditch for the New York Canal Bridge project.
At least one lane in each direction will remain open overnight between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. All lanes will be open during daytime hours.
ITD is widening the bridge over New York Canal just east of the Orchard Street Interchange to prepare for future improvements to the interchange and I-84.
The speed limit is 55 mph, and highway shoulders are restricted between Orchard and Vista.
ITD advises motorists to be aware of workers and equipment in the area.
The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete in Spring 2009.
The project is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
