Overnight lane restrictions expected on I-84 between Orchard and Vista interchanges tonight through Thursday
BOISE - Motorists should expect I-84 lane restrictions between the Orchard and Vista interchanges overnight Tuesday through Thursday (Jan. 6-8) this week while the Idaho Transportation Department hauls materials, sets girders and places guardrail.
Weather permitting, the eastbound inside lane will be closed tonight (Jan. 6) and Wednesday night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (Jan. 7) to haul materials and set girders. On Thursday night (Jan. 8), the eastbound and westbound outside lanes will be closed to place guardrail. This work is part of the New York Canal Bridge project.
ITD is widening the bridge over New York Canal just east of the Orchard Street Interchange to prepare for future improvements to the interchange and I-84.
The speed limit is 55 mph and highway shoulders are restricted between Orchard and Vista. ITD advises motorists to be aware of workers and equipment in the area.
The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete in spring 2009.
The project is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.

Note: Due to inclement weather, the lane opening of the right-turn lane from Broadway Avenue onto I-84 has been postponed until later this week. It was to have opened today.
