Overnight I-84 lane restrictions tonight and Sunday night near the Orchard Interchange
BOISE - The inside eastbound lanes on I-84 near the Orchard Interchange will be closed tonight (Friday, Jan. 16) and Sunday night (Jan. 18) as part of the Idaho Transportation Department's New York Canal project.
Weather permitting, the closure will occur overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night while equipment is moved into the work zone and concrete is poured for a new bridge deck over the New York Canal.
ITD is widening the bridge to prepare for future improvements to the Orchard Street Interchange and I-84.
The speed limit is 55 mph and highway shoulders are restricted between Orchard and Vista. ITD advises motorists to be aware of workers and equipment in the area.
The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete in spring 2009.
The project is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
