I-84 closure tonight avoided: bridge girder work between Nampa and Meridian completed early
BOISE - The Idaho Transportation Department has cancelled tonight's (Saturday, Jan. 17) planned closure of I-84 between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges because bridge girder placement work was completed early.

Two nights of detours had been scheduled while contractors placed girders for the new Robinson and Black Cat bridges over I-84. Instead, all girders were placed on Friday night, making the Saturday-night closure unnecessary.

In addition, some potholes in the area of the freeway closure were patched last night.

After closing at 10 p.m. Friday night for the bridge girder placement work, the interstate re-opened to traffic by 6:45 a.m. this morning.

The I-84, Robinson and Black Cat bridge reconstruction is part of the larger project to widen I-84 between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges. Work in this area is funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite I-84 improvements.
