Bicycle and pedestrian mobility discussions Thursday and Friday in eastern Idaho
BOISE - Sessions will be held Thursday and Friday (Jan. 23-24) in eastern Idaho to kick off a series of bicycle and pedestrian mobility discussions statewide to support the ongoing statewide bicycle and pedestrian mobility survey, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Responses will help identify a preferred vision for non-motorized mobility statewide, according to Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Mark McNeese. Individuals interested in impacting the future of bicycle and pedestrian mobility are invited to participate in the discussions and help formulate a local- regional- and state-level plan.
"Once we get the vision in place, then we'll start working on the building blocks that will need to exist to get it done," said McNeese. The picture we envision and then proceed to paint will be inherited by our children, so we need to make sure we get it right."
Thursday's discussions will be from 9-11 a.m. at the Bonneville Metro Planning Organization office at 1810 W. Broadway #15 in Idaho Falls and from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Driggs City Hall Council Chambers. The discussions will be held in an open-house style forum, meaning that attendance for the entire two-hour block of time is not necessary.
Friday's discussion will be from 9-11 a.m. at the Bannock Transportation Planning Organization office in Pocatello at 214 E. Center.
Similar discussions are planned in northern Idaho the following week.
An online survey went live on Dec. 29 and will be active through the end of January. More than 1,850 survey responses have been cataloged so far throughout the state.
(If you would like to complete the survey it should take 15 to 20 minutes and can be accessed at http://itd.idaho.gov/planning/bike/2008PlanSurvey.html).
If you cannot make it to the discussion but would like to be kept informed about the initiative submit a request either by email to mark.mcneese@itd.idaho.gov or call him at 208-334-8272.
