Westbound I-84 lane restriction expected tonight (Jan. 21) near Orchard Interchange
BOISE - Motorists on I-84 should expect a lane restriction near the Orchard Interchange tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 21) as part of the Idaho Transportation Department's New York Canal construction project.
The outside lane of westbound I-84 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closure will protect construction workers who are moving guardrail near the I-84 shoulder.
ITD is widening the bridge over the New York Canal in preparation for future improvements to the Orchard Street Interchange and I-84.
The speed limit is 55 mph and highway shoulders are restricted in the project area. ITD advises motorists to be aware of workers and equipment in the area.
The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete in this spring. It is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
