Westbound I-84 lane restrictions continue Wednesday through Friday near Orchard Interchange
BOISE - Motorists should expect I-84 westbound lane restrictions overnight near the Orchard Street Interchange from Wednesday (Jan. 28) to Friday (Jan. 30) as a part of the Idaho Transportation Department's New York Canal construction project.

Weather permitting, the closure will be from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews demolish parts of the old bridge and pour concrete.

ITD is widening the bridge over the New York Canal in preparation for future improvements to the Orchard Interchange and I-84.

The speed limit is 55 mph and highway shoulders are restricted in the project area. ITD advises motorists to be aware of workers and equipment.

The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete this spring. It is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
