UPDATE: I-84 lane restrictions expected overnight Thursday, Friday in Nampa and Meridian
BOISE - East- and westbound I-84 motorists will be reduced to one lane in both directions tonight (Thursday, Feb. 19) and Friday night (Feb. 20) between the Locust Grove Overpass and Garrity Interchange. The Idaho Transportation Department is re-painting the roadway stripes.

The eastbound off-ramp at the Meridian Interchange will also be closed for about an hour starting at 10 p.m. tonight (Thursday, Feb. 19) for re-striping. Motorists will be detoured to the Eagle Interchange during the closure.

Although this full closure should only take an hour, the earlier announced lane restrictions will be in effect overnight from 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning.

The striping is part of a larger project to rebuild the interstate from Garrity to Meridian and add a third lane in both directions. The project is expected to be complete in 2010.

It is one of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for driving information on the state highway or interstate system.
