Westbound I-84, Wright Street will be restricted tonight, Thursday near Orchard Interchange
BOISE - Motorists should expect restrictions on westbound I-84 and Wright Street overnight near the Orchard Interchange tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 25) and Thursday night (Feb. 26) as a part of the Idaho Transportation Department's New York Canal construction project.

One lane of westbound I-84 will be closed from 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning while crews pour concrete.

From 8:30 a.m. to noon tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 26), Wright Street (the street that parallels the freeway and connects to Victory and Orchard south of the interchange) will be reduced to one lane while a crane is removed from the work zone. Flaggers will direct traffic.

ITD is widening the bridge over the New York Canal in preparation for future improvements to the Orchard Street Interchange and I-84.

The speed limit is 55 mph and highway shoulders are restricted in the project area. ITD advises motorists to be aware of trucks and equipment.

The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete in Spring 2009. It is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
