Westbound I-84 will be restricted Saturday overnight near Orchard Interchange
BOISE - Motorists should expect overnight restrictions on westbound I-84 near the Orchard Interchange Saturday night (Feb. 28) as part of the Idaho Transportation Department's New York Canal construction project.
One lane of westbound I-84 will be closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews pour concrete as part of the new bridge.
ITD is widening the bridge over the New York Canal in preparation for future improvements to the Orchard Street Interchange and I-84.
The speed limit is 55 mph and highway shoulders are restricted in the project area. ITD advises motorists to be aware of workers and equipment.
The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete this spring. It is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
