UPDATE: I-84 lane restrictions Thursday and Friday night near Orchard Interchange
BOISE - Wet, sloppy conditions in the dirt median means that crews will need to close the westbound I-84 inside lane tonight (Thursday, March 5) to allow a concrete truck to bring a heavy load in for pouring as part of construction. This is part of the Idaho Transportation Department's New York Canal construction project.

The lane closure will be from 10 p.m. tonight to 5 a.m. Friday (March 6) morning. The lane will close again overnight Friday night at 9 p.m. through Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

Last night, the I-84 westbound outside lane and eastbound inside lane were closed overnight to move equipment.

ITD is widening the bridge over the New York Canal in preparation for future improvements to the Orchard Street Interchange and I-84.

The speed limit is 55 mph and highway shoulders are restricted in the project area. ITD advises motorists to be aware of trucks and equipment.

The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete in Spring 2009. It is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
