Traffic to be allowed over new interchange

RIGBY - The Hitt and St. Leon Interchange project will reach a major milestone Monday when the new U.S. 20 alignment is opened to traffic, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

By the time commuters and shoppers begin their commute home Monday afternoon, one lane of traffic will be routed onto the new pavement and over the two new interchange structures north of Idaho Falls.

By Tuesday afternoon, both lanes of traffic will be diverted onto the new section of highway. The route will be two lanes in both directions with a speed limit of 55 mph.

With traffic out of the way, Western Construction will complete its work on the on- and off- ramps and the connections to Hitt and St. Leon roads.

The project should be finished by October, except for a final seal coat scheduled for next summer.
