Overnight I-84 lane restrictions expected next week near Orchard Interchange in Boise
BOISE - Portions of Interstate 84 near the Orchard Street Interchange will be reduced to one lane overnight Monday through Thursday (March 16-19) as part of the Idaho Transportation Department's New York Canal construction project.
Lane restrictions will be in place from 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning to allow crews to pour concrete in the project area.
One lane will be closed on both east- and westbound I-84 during the restrictions.
ITD is widening the bridge over the New York Canal in preparation for future improvements to the Orchard Street Interchange and I-84.
The speed limit is 55 mph and highway shoulders are restricted in the project area. ITD advises motorists to be aware of workers and equipment.
The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete in Spring 2009. It is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
