GARVEE weekly round-up report for frojects in southwest Idaho
BOISE - Interstate 84 East improvements - New York Canal widening
Motorists should expect restrictions on east- and westbound I-84 near the Orchard Interchange Sunday morning (March 22) through Tuesday night (March 24) as a part of the Idaho Transportation Departments New York Canal construction project.

Weather permitting, Sunday morning (March 22) the outside lanes of east- and westbound I-84 will be closed from 8 a.m. to noon while crews move guardrail and re-stripe.

Monday night (March 23) and Tuesday night (March 24) the inside east- and westbound I-84 lanes will be restricted from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to move material into the median.

This project will widen the I-84 bridge over the New York Canal just east of the Orchard Street Interchange. It will accommodate new ramp lanes at the Orchard Interchange and future additional lanes in the I-84 median.

The speed limit on I-84 is 55 mph and shoulders are restricted in the project area.

The project is expected to be complete in spring of 2009.

WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Interstate 84, Garrity to Meridian widening
At least one lane of traffic in each direction is typically open between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on weekdays and between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Two lanes in each direction are open during the day.

Widening and reconstruction of I-84 from Garrity to Meridian is expected to be complete in 2010. The transportation department reminds motorists to use extra caution while traveling in the area.

The speed limit is 55 mph.

NAMPA - Interstate 84, Franklin Boulevard Interchange Bridge reconstruction
Work continues on a project to reconstruct the east half of the Franklin Boulevard Interchange Bridge in Nampa.
The project is expected to be complete in the summer of 2009 and will allow future widening on I-84. The west half was reconstructed in 1999.

Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for this $3.1 million project.

WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Robinson Boulevard and Black Cat Road bridge replacement
Beginning Monday (March 23), daytime traffic will be reduced to one lane across the Black Cat Road and Robinson Boulevard bridges while crews complete pavement, drainage and guardrail on both structures.

From 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., one lane will be open on both structures. Flaggers will direct motorists across the bridges. Delays are expected to last one to five minutes.

Traffic interruptions are expected to end April 1, although inclement weather could delay the schedule.
All lanes will be open on the bridges at night.

The project is on schedule for an April completion.

The contractor for this $8.5 million project is Graham Construction & Management Inc. of Spokane.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
