Weekly GARVEE southwest Idaho highway construction report for March 27-April 3
BOISE - The following projects are part of the GARVEE Transportation Program in southwest Idaho, which uses funds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite highway projects.

BOISE - Interstate 84 East improvements - New York Canal Restrictions
Motorists can expect lane restrictions traveling both east- and westbound on I-84 near the Orchard Interchange on the night of Friday (March 27) as part of the Idaho Transportation Department's New York Canal construction project.

Weather permitting, the outside lanes of east- and westbound I-84 will be closed overnight Friday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to restripe the ramps.

ITD is widening the bridge over the New York Canal in preparation for future improvements to the Orchard Street Interchange and I-84.

The speed limit on I-84 is 55 mph and shoulders are restricted in the project area.  ITD advises motorists to be aware of workers and equipment.

The project is expected to be complete this spring.

WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Interstate 84, Garrity to Meridian widening
At least one lane of traffic in each direction is typically open between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on weekdays and between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Two lanes in each direction are open during the day.

Widening and reconstruction of I-84 from Garrity to Meridian is expected to be complete in 2010. The transportation department reminds motorists to use extra caution while traveling in the area.

The speed limit is 55 mph.

NAMPA - Interstate 84, Franklin Boulevard Interchange Bridge Construction
Motorists can expect traffic delays on I-84 under the Franklin Boulevard Interchange on the nights of Monday and Tuesday (March 30-31) as part of the Idaho Transportation Departments Franklin Boulevard Interchange project in Nampa.

Weather permitting, east- and westbound traffic will be redirected by flaggers to use the on- and off-ramps while the interchange is closed.  Crews will install fencing, remove guardrail and finish the bridge deck.

The project is expected to be complete this summer and will allow future widening on I-84. The west half was reconstructed in 1999.

Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for this $3.1 million project.

WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Robinson Boulevard and Black Cat Road bridge replacement
Motorists can expect traffic delays on both Robinson Boulevard and Black Cat Road bridges each day from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. One lane will be open as construction continues on the bridges. Flaggers will direct motorists across the bridges. Delays are expected to last from one to five minutes.

Traffic interruptions are expected to end Wednesday (April 1), although inclement weather could delay the schedule.

All lanes will be open on the bridges at night. The project is on schedule for an early April completion.

The contractor for this $8.5 million project is Graham Construction & Management Inc. of Spokane.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
