Weekly GARVEE southwest Idaho construction report for April 3-10
BOISE - The following projects are part of the GARVEE Transportation Program in southwest Idaho, which uses funds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite highway projects.

BOISE - Interstate 84 East improvements - New York Canal Restrictions
Work will continue this week on a project to widen the bridge over the New York Canal near the Orchard Street Interchange on I-84.

The project will make way for future improvements to the corridor.

The speed limit on I-84 is 55 mph and shoulders are restricted in the project area.  ITD advises motorists to be aware of trucks and equipment.

The project is expected to be complete this spring.

WEST TREASURE VALLEY - I-84, Garrity to Meridian widening
Motorists can expect delays when getting on or off eastbound I-84 at Meridian Road Saturday night (April 4). The eastbound off-ramp and loop on-ramp will be closed from midnight Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.

The second eastbound on-ramp, accessible only from northbound Meridian Road, will remain open. All westbound ramps will be open.

Traffic on eastbound I-84 will be directed to exit at Eagle Road. Traffic on Meridian Road will be directed to take Franklin Road or Overland Road and access eastbound I-84 at the Eagle Interchange.

Crews will install a large pipe under the ramps. The loop ramp must be modified to allow additional lanes on I-84 between Garrity and Meridian.

Widening and reconstruction of I-84 from Garrity to Meridian is expected to be complete in 2010. The transportation department reminds motorists to use extra caution while traveling in the area.

The speed limit is 55 mph.

NAMPA - Interstate 84, Franklin Boulevard Interchange Bridge Construction
The Franklin Interchange Bridge project is nearing completion. Motorists are advised to drive carefully in the project area.

The project is expected to be complete in late April and will allow future widening on I-84. The east half of the bridge is being rebuilt to match the west half reconstructed in 1999.

Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for this $3.1 million project.

WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Robinson Boulevard and Black Cat Road bridge replacement
Traffic delays will continue on the Robinson Boulevard and Black Cat Bridges while crews complete final clean-up work. The bridges reopened to traffic March 6.

Both bridges will be reduced to one lane from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. and flaggers will direct traffic. Delays are expected to last one to five minutes.

Weather permitting, traffic will return to normal early next week.

The $8.5 million project was substantially completed on April 1.

Graham Construction & Management Inc. of Spokane was the contractor.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
