Interstate 15 rehabilitation project scheduled in Pocatello
POCATELLO - A project to rehabilitate a 5.6-mile segment of heavily traveled Interstate 15 in Pocatello is scheduled to begin April 14 if weather conditions permit, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Western Construction of Boise will remove nearly four inches of the existing surface between mileposts 67 and 73 (South Fifth Street to Chubbuck Road) and replace it with a new superpave surface that provides better stability in extreme hot and cold conditions. The new surface uses larger gravel than conventional pavement and is mixed with polymers to improve durability and better accommodate heavy truck traffic.
Material that is milled from the existing surface will be donated to Bannock County for recycling in local road and highway projects.
The $3.7 million project tentatively is expected to be completed in early May.
Traffic on I-15 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction when construction begins. Motorists also might encounter brief ramp closures when construction reaches the Pocatello Creek, Clark Street and South Fifth Street interchanges in Pocatello.
