Weekly GARVEE southwest Idaho highway construction report for April 10-17
BOISE - The following projects are part of the GARVEE Transportation Program in southwest Idaho, which uses funds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite highway projects.
BOISE - Interstate 84 East improvements - New York Canal
Work will continue this week on a project to widen the bridge over the New York Canal near the Orchard Street Interchange on I-84. Work is expected to be completed by month's end.
The project will make way for future improvements on the corridor.
The speed limit on I-84 is 55 mph and shoulders are restricted in the project area. ITD advises motorists to be aware of trucks and equipment.
BOISE - Interstate 84 Orchard Street Interchange
Work has begun on the new I-84 Orchard Street Interchange. Crews are setting up traffic control along the Interstate and surrounding roadways.
The project will make way for future improvements on the corridor.
The speed limit on I-84 is 55 mph and shoulders are restricted in the project area. The speed limit on surrounding roadways (Orchard Street, Wright Street, Victory Road) is 25 mph. ITD advises motorists to be aware of trucks and equipment.
The project is expected to be complete in spring of 2010.
McAlvain Group of Companies, Inc. of Boise is the contractor for this $15.1 million project.
WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Interstate 84, Garrity to Meridian widening
The eastbound I-84 on-ramp from northbound Meridian Road will be closed from 8 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (April 12-13).
Starting Monday, traffic will use a temporary on-ramp while the permanent ramp is reconfigured to accommodate additional lanes on I-84.
The second eastbound on-ramp, accessible from southbound Meridian Road, will remain open Sunday night.
Widening and reconstruction of I-84 from Garrity to Meridian is expected to be complete in early winter 2009. The transportation department reminds motorists to use extra caution while traveling in the area.
The speed limit is 55 mph.
NAMPA - Interstate 84, Franklin Boulevard Interchange Bridge Construction
The Franklin Interchange Bridge project is nearing completion. Motorists are advised to drive carefully in the project area.
The project is expected to be complete shortly and will allow future widening on I-84. The west half was reconstructed in 1999.
Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for this $3.1 million project.
WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Robinson Boulevard and Black Cat Road bridge replacement
Speed limits have returned to normal on the Robinson Boulevard and Black Cat Road bridges over I-84. Both bridges were replaced to accommodate additional lanes on I-84.
Motorists are advised to drive carefully, as crews may be completing final tasks on the roadway shoulders this month.
Graham Construction & Management Inc. of Spokane was the contractor for the $8.5 million bridge replacement project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
