Public input wanted on Idaho 55 in Canyon, Owyhee County
BOISE - Two identical public workshops will be held at the American Legion Community Hall in Marsing on Thursday, April 16, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The workshops will be from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The American Legion Community Hall is located at 126 Second Avenue West, off the old Bruneau Highway. Residents in Owyhee and Canyon County are asked to help identify needed improvements to Idaho 55 as part of a corridor study. Thursday's workshops will focus on the section of Idaho 55 in Owyhee and Canyon County. The study limits extend from New Meadows to Marsing. The study will help create a plan that guides policies and projects important to the development of Idaho 55 over the next 20 years.
As part of the study, the transportation department will analyze safety, traffic, access management, and environmental issues corridor-wide and county-by-county. The study will be based on community input, engineering analysis, and city, county, and agency planning goals.
Idaho 55 is the only link between the Treasure Valley and popular destinations such as Payette Lake and Cascade Reservoir. The six counties along Idaho 55 have varying needs. ITD has planned workshops for each county.
ITD will be conducting similar workshops in Canyon County and other communities along Idaho 55 in the summer of 2009. For more information, visit www.itd.idaho.gov and select Projects, Southwest Idaho, then Idaho 55 Corridor Study.
