Motorists reminded to watch for lane restrictions and drive with caution during work near Orchard Interchange April 17-19
BOISE - The Idaho Transportation Department reminds motorists to drive with caution on I-84 near the Orchard Street Interchange Friday through Sunday (April 17-19) as crews remove guardrail and perform final bridge work as the New York Canal project winds down.
From 9:30 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, one lane of I-84 will be closed in both directions while crews remove guardrail.
Restrictions will continue overnight Saturday (starting at 9:30 p.m.) and all day Sunday (through 8 p.m.) while crews complete guardrail work, re-stripe pavement and seal the new bridge.
During this work, advisory signs will be posted to recommend a speed limit of 45 miles per hour. Motorists should watch for workers in the construction zone.
Work hours will depend on weather.
ITD is widening the bridge over the New York Canal as part of improvements to the Orchard Street Interchange and I-84.
The bridge-widening project is expected to be complete in late April 2009. It is part of a series of improvements in the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.Idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
