Weekly GARVEE southwest Idaho highway construction projects for April 17-24
BOISE - The following projects are part of the GARVEE Transportation Program in southwest Idaho, which uses funds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite highway projects.
BOISE - Interstate 84 East improvements - New York Canal
Work will continue this week on a project to widen the bridge over the New York Canal near the Orchard Street Interchange on I-84.
One lane of traffic will be closed on both east- and westbound I-84 from Friday (April 17) 9:30 p.m. to Saturday (April 18) at 7 a.m. while crews remove guardrail.
Crews will complete guardrail work, restriping and sealing Saturday (April 18) 9:30 p.m. through Sunday (April 19) at 8 p.m.
The speed limit on I-84 is 45 mph and motorists are cautioned to watch for workers in the construction zone.
The project is expected to be complete late this month.
BOISE - Interstate 84 Orchard Street Interchange
Work has begun on the new I-84 Orchard Street Interchange. Crews are beginning work to relocate a water line north of the Orchard Interchange. Motorists traveling north on Orchard Street will be restricted to one lane for 300 feet just north of the interchange. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday (April 16-17) and continuing Monday through Thursday next week (April 20-24). All lanes are open onthe weekend.
The project will make way for future improvements to the corridor.
The speed limit on I-84 is 55 mph and shoulders are restricted in the project area. The speed limit on surrounding roadways (Orchard Street, Wright Street and Victory Road) is 25 mph. ITD advises motorists to be aware of trucks and equipment.
The project is expected to be complete in spring of 2010.
McAlvain Group of Companies Inc. of Boise is the contractor for this $15.1 million project.
WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Interstate 84, Garrity to Meridian widening
Traffic will continue to use the northbound Meridian Road temporary on-ramp while the permanent ramp is reconfigured to accommodate additional lanes on I-84.
The second eastbound on-ramp, accessible from southbound Meridian Road, will remain open Sunday night.
Widening and reconstruction of I-84 from Garrity to Meridian is expected to be complete in 2010. The transportation department reminds motorists to use extra caution while traveling in the area.
The speed limit is 55 mph.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
