Weekly GARVEE southwest Idaho construction report for April 24 - May 1
BOISE - The following projects are part of the GARVEE Transportation Program in southwest Idaho, which uses funds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite highway projects.

BOISE - Interstate 84 East improvements - New York Canal
Work is substantially complete on a project to widen the bridge over the New York Canal as part of improvements to the Orchard Street Interchange and I-84.

Concrete Placing Company Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $4.6 million New York Canal Bridge project.

BOISE - Interstate 84 Orchard Street Interchange
Crews are continuing to relocate a water line north of the Orchard Interchange. Lane restrictions can be expected on both north- and southbound lanes on Orchard Street Friday (April 24) through Friday (May 1) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Motorists traveling north on Orchard Street will be restricted to one lane for 300 feet just north of the interchange.  All lanes will be open on weekends.

Southbound motorists can also expect limited access to the right lane to allow for trucks to enter the roadway from the construction zone through May 15.

The project will make way for future improvements to the corridor.

The speed limit on I-84 is 55 mph and shoulders are restricted in the project area. The speed limit on surrounding roadways (Orchard Street, Wright Street, Victory Road) is 25 mph in the project area. ITD advises motorists to be aware of trucks and equipment.

The project is expected to be complete in spring of 2010.

McAlvain Group of Companies, Inc. of Boise is the contractor for this $15.1 million project.

WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Interstate 84, Garrity to Meridian widening
The eastbound I-84 on-ramp from northbound Meridian Road is expected to be closed overnight Tuesday (April 28).

From 8 p.m. on Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday (April 29), motorists could be detoured to the on-ramp at Eagle Road. The eastbound loop on-ramp, accessible from southbound Meridian Road, will remain open.

Widening and reconstruction of I-84 from Garrity to Meridian is expected to be complete in late 2009.

The transportation department reminds motorists to use extra caution while traveling in the area. The speed limit is 55 mph.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
