Weekly GARVEE southwest Idaho highway construction report for May 1-8
BOISE - The following projects are part of the GARVEE Transportation Program in southwest Idaho, which uses funds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite highway projects.

BOISE - Interstate 84 East improvements - New York Canal
Work is nearly complete on the project to widen the bridge over the New York Canal near the Orchard Street Interchange on I-84.

As part of this project, crews are completing the soundwalls along I-84 near the Orchard Street Interchange.  The soundwalls are expected to be complete within the next week or two.

BOISE - Interstate 84 Orchard Street Interchange
Crews are continuing to relocate a water line north of the Orchard Interchange. Traffic on Orchard Street will be restricted to one lane, 300 feet north of I-84, starting Sunday (May 3) from 6 a.m. to noon.

Motorists also should expect an overnight I-84 lane closure on Monday (May 4).  The inside, eastbound lane will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, to allow crews to work on the center piers for the new bridge. This is part of a project to construct and widen a new Orchard Street Interchange.

Southbound motorists can expect limited access to the right lane to allow trucks to enter the roadway from the construction zone through May 15.

The project will make way for future improvements on the corridor.

The speed limit on I-84 is 55 mph and shoulders are restricted in the project area. The speed limit on surrounding roadways (Orchard Street, Wright Street and Victory Road) is 25 mph. ITD advises motorists to be aware of trucks and equipment.

The project is expected to be complete in spring of 2010.

McAlvain Group of Companies Inc. of Boise is the contractor for this $15.1 million project.

WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Interstate 84, Garrity to Meridian widening
Work will continue this week on the project to widen I-84 between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges.

The project is expected to be complete in late 2009.

The transportation department reminds motorists to use extra caution while traveling in the area. The speed limit is 55 mph.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
