POCATELLO - A highway improvement project is scheduled to begin Monday (May 11) on segments of heavily traveled U.S. 91 (Yellowstone Ave.) in Pocatello, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Work will begin on the southern segment, from Cedar Street near the Fred Meyer center to East Alameda.  The project also extends from East Alameda to East Chapel Road, and from a point between Industrial Lane and Flandro Drive to Hurley Drive.

The concrete pavement rehabilitation project includes slab replacement, crack repairs, joint sealing and installation of sidewalks, curbs and gutters.

Most of the construction will take place between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. to minimize impacts on traffic and businesses along Yellowstone Ave. One lane will remain open through the work zones, although flaggers may delay motorists for brief periods. ITD recommends using an alternate route during construction, unless motorists need to access businesses along Yellowstone.

Access to local business will be maintained throughout the project.

Braun-Jensen, Inc. of Payette will begin working on the west side of Yellowstone near the Pocatello mall and upon completion will shift to the east side. Lane closures may be required for up to two weeks at a time.

Cost for the project, which is estimated to be complete in early July, is $524,000.
