REMINDER: Weekend work at State and Glenwood intersection may cause significant delays
BOISE - Starting this evening (Friday, May 8) at 6 p.m. and continuing through the weekend, traffic signals will be turned off, flaggers will guide motorists and traffic will be reduced to one lane at the intersection of State and Glenwood streets.

These restrictions must be removed by the time of Monday (May 11) morning's commute, starting at 5:30 a.m.

During the work this weekend, no left turns will be permitted in the vicinity, except at the intersection itself.

This has the potential to cause significant delays at the intersection. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes or allow more time.

The intersection work is expected to resume next Friday (May 15), and wrap up by the end of next weekend (May 17).

This is part of a larger Idaho Transportation Department project to repair and resurface State and Glenwood streets (Idaho 44) through Garden City, Boise and Eagle. The roadway is deteriorated, cracked and rutted. The project will significantly extend the life of the roadway and result in a smoother ride for motorists.

During the week, traffic barrels have to pulled to allow unimpeded two-lane traffic in each direction during the morning (5:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.) and evening (3:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.) commutes, but they will be back in place and traffic may be restricted to one lane each way from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30  p.m. each day.

The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph on State, and remains 35 mph on Glenwood.

"Our crews will work an extremely aggressive schedule which includes overnight and weekend shifts," said Merrill Sharp, ITD construction manager. "This get-in, get-out approach will allow us to complete the project in less than half the time of crews working only during the day. Our priority is to keep traffic flowing safely, while completing the project quickly."

Because crews will be working around the clock, the project is expected to be complete in about six weeks, in mid- to late June.

Central Paving Co. Inc. Boise is the contractor on this $4.4 million project.

ITD and local law enforcement caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
