Weekly GARVEE southwest Idaho highway construction report for May 8-15
BOISE - The following projects are part of the GARVEE Transportation Program in southwest Idaho, which uses funds from Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite highway projects.
BOISE - Interstate 84 Orchard Street Interchange
Motorists can expect north- and southbound lanes on Orchard Street to be shifted slightly west. From 10 p.m. Friday (May 8) to 5 a.m. Saturday (May 9) flaggers will direct motorists during the transition.
Shifting traffic allows all five lanes to stay open during most of construction on the Orchard Interchange.
Southbound motorists on Orchard Street can also expect limited access to the right lane through May 15. This is to allow trucks to enter the roadway from the construction zone. ITD advises motorists to be cautious of these trucks and equipment.
The speed limit on I-84 is 55 mph and shoulders are restricted in the project area. The speed limit on surrounding roadways (Orchard Street, Wright Street, Victory Road) is 25 mph.
The project is expected to be complete in spring of 2010.
McAlvain Group of Companies, Inc. of Boise is the contractor for this $15.1 million project.
WEST TREASURE VALLEY - Interstate 84, Garrity to Meridian widening
Motorists should expect intermittent overnight lane restrictions on eastbound I-84 between Nampa and Meridian this coming week (the week of May 11-15), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The eastbound left lane will periodically be closed at night between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges while crews work on the Meridian Interchange bridge piers.
Motorists entering eastbound I-84 from Meridian Road can also expect ramp closures starting May 15.
The loop on-ramp accessed from southbound Meridian Road will be closed next weekend, from midnight May 15 to 6 a.m. May 17.
In addition, the on-ramp from northbound Meridian Road will be closed from 8 p.m. May 16 to 5 a.m. May 17.
Both ramps must be modified to accommodate the additional lanes to be added on I-84.
The project is expected to be complete in late 2009.
The transportation department reminds motorists to use extra caution while traveling in the area.
The I-84 speed limit is 55 mph.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
