Flaggers will direct Orchard Interchange traffic Thursday morning (June 4)
BOISE - Traffic signals on the Orchard Interchange will be turned off between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Thursday (June 4) to allow crews to activate a new power source for the traffic lights. The Idaho Transportation Department advises motorists to expect brief delays.

Flaggers will direct traffic at the on- and off-ramps, and at the intersection of Orchard Street and Victory Road.

The Idaho Transportation Department is building a new bridge and ramps to replace the Orchard Interchange, which was constructed in 1965. The new structure will make way for additional lanes underneath on I-84.

The project includes reconfiguring parts of Wright Street and Victory Road to improve traffic flow south of the interchange.

Construction is expected to be complete in the spring of 2010.

Traffic updates will be posted to www.itd.idaho.gov under Projects, Southwest Idaho and I-84, Orchard Street Interchange.

The Orchard Interchange project is funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

McAlvain Group of Companies, Inc. of Boise is the contractor for this $15.1 million project.
