Blasting on U.S. 93 near Richfield to delay traffic Monday and Tuesday
SHOSHONE - Rock blasting in preparation for the reconstruction of a portion of U.S. 93, north of Richfield, is expected to delay traffic on Monday and Tuesday (June 8-9), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

U.S. 93 is reduced to one lane from the north end of Richfield to the intersection with Pagari Road (milepost 182 to 189) for realignment of one road section and rehabilitation throughout the rest of the project. Crews are working 24 hours a day to blast, excavate rock and realign the road.

All traffic in the area will be stopped during blasting and while the area is cleared of debris immediately afterward. Drivers should anticipate extended delays during and after each blast. One lane of traffic will be opened to traffic after the areas are cleared of loose rock.

Drivers are asked to watch for flaggers, follow all temporary traffic control signs and use caution when driving through the work zone. A pilot car will be used to shuttle traffic through the construction zone and a 45-mph speed limit will be in effect.

A 12-foot width restriction remains in effect throughout the construction zone. All permitted over-legal loads are asked to use U.S. 20 west of Carey.

Western Construction Inc. of Boise is the contractor for the $3.5 million project.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
