Crews to begin U.S. 12 overlay project Monday near Kamiah
LEWISTON - A construction project to improve 3.2 miles of U.S. 12 near Kamiah will begin Monday, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Crews from Poe Asphalt of Clarkston, Wash., will begin applying the first of two overlays on the highway at 7 a.m. Construction will start at Woodland Road, near milepost 66 and continue east to milepost 70.  Crews will work 10-hour days, Mondays through Thursdays, and expect to finish the project before the Fourth of July weekend.

Flaggers and pilot cars will control traffic through the work zone, which will be reduced to a single lane. Delays of up to 15 minutes should be expected.

The four-inch overlay will help preserve the highway surface and extend its life, according to engineers.

Cost for the three-week overlay project is approximately $1.75 million.

ITD and the Idaho State Police ask motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
