Two highway paving projects to begin Friday (June 19)
POCATELLO -- A 400-foot segment of Interstate 15 north of Blackfoot will be repaved this week to eliminate a rough surface and provide a smoother ride for motorists, the Idaho Transportation announced.

The interstate will  be reduced to a single lane in both directions Friday near milepost 93. Crews from Knife River Construction of Idaho Falls expect to grind the existing surface and repave the section in one day. A width restriction of 10 feet will be required during the paving operation.

The project, estimated to cost about $50,000, will include sealing and waterproofing bridges over two canals. Motorists are asked to slow down and use caution when driving through the work zone.

Another resurfacing project is scheduled for Idaho 39, between Springfield and Pingree, southwest of  Blackfoot.

Knife River crews will begin grinding the existing surface on Friday and expect to start applying a 2.5-inch overlay Tuesday (June 23) between mileposts 32 and 37.

The four-day paving project, expected to be complete by Friday, June 26, will improve about 1.65 miles of the four-mile section that is has been designated deficient. Cost of the project is about $287,000

Idaho 39 will be reduced to a single lane in the work zone, and traffic will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car. During construction, a 10-foot width restriction will be required.

ITD and the Idaho State Police ask motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information about construction activities on state highways or the interstate highway system.
